Qwant

Founded in France in 2011, Qwant S.A.S. launched its web search engine ‘Qwant’ in France in 2013 and in Germany in 2014. Qwant is a search engine committed to data protection; they don’t track user activity or personalise search results. Their servers are located exclusively in Europe and they use their own proprietary web indexing technology.

As of 2017, pioneer communications has been responsible for Qwant’s German media relations and social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn). During this time, pioneer communications organized a press tour, as well as numerous interviews with Qwant’s Germany country manager. Additionally, pioneer communications has supported with the creation of press releases, consumer surveys, graphic materials and videos.

Mission

With a mission to position Qwant as a privacy-focused alternative to Google in the German market, pioneer communications placed Qwant’s German spokesperson in relevant media as an expert on data protection and privacy. pioneer communications set up interviews with journalists and organised speaking appearances at industry-relevant conferences. The end goal was to increase overall awareness and usage of Qwant’s search engine within the German market.

Realisation

As Qwant’s primary point of contact for journalists in Germany, pioneer communications fields and answers all press inquiries. Through proactive pitching, Qwant is positioned in the media as a thought leader on privacy and data protection topics. Interviews with Qwant’s German spokesperson are organized, carried out, and thereafter followed up on. pioneer communications translates all textual material, including press releases, press kits and online banners, ensuring that all outgoing communications are adapted to the German market. Additionally, pioneer communications monitors media coverage and collects mentions of Qwant across all key channels, including online, print, TV and radio media, evaluating overall impact within the German market.

pioneer communications also manages Qwant’s German social media channels, which includes posting content, community management, influencer relations and the sourcing of testimonials. As well as taking care of the German Facebook and Twitter pages, pioneer communications also assists with content creation for the Qwant company blog and LinkedIn account.

Evaluation

Following up with journalists after interviews, establishing open and ongoing dialogue, is one of pioneer communications’ key tasks. Through regular reporting, public perception of Qwant in Germany is ascertained and any negative sentiment is analysed and resolved. Additionally, pioneer communications regularly evaluates the development of Qwant’s German social media channels using various analytical tools. PR activities increased Qwant’s reach and awareness in Germany and attracted new users. Ongoing dialogue with German internet users has helped foster a positive image of Qwant in Germany.
